Light Festival

The Vivid Festival in Sydney is incredible for photographers – artists paint with light and it’s awesome to shoot. EOS 5D MK2, Tripod, 24-105 f/4 250ISO, 13 seconds @ f/5, -.67 stops

Beached…

The Pasha Bulker coal boat beached itself at Nobby’s Beach, Newcastle, in 2006. This is my favourite image from the accident. EOS 1DMk2N, 24-105 f/4 @ 70mm, ISO 400, 1/1000 @ f/6.3, -.67 stop.

Family…

Getting a dozen or so people in a shot – which needed to include me – was never going to be easy, especially as it needed to be shot at a time when the sun would be high in the Perth sky, and the group included ages from 2 to 75. I put the cameraContinue reading “Family…”

Tower…

Shooting almost straight up gave this fascinating composition for the Bell Tower in Perth. Underexposed 1.5 stops based on the camera meter. Olympus EP-1, ISO 200, 1/1500@ f/6.7, 14-42 @ 14mm

Macro with no viewfinder…

Let me just say I like my Olympus EP-1, but it’s not a great camera for macro work. I’ve never tried a DSLR four-thirds kit for macro, but I reckon it would be excellent: it’s the smallest format being taken seriously in regard to high quality lenses, camera bodies and sensors, and the inherent extraContinue reading “Macro with no viewfinder…”

Things you see…

I was on my way home and the local lake was bathed in this beautiful sunset. A lone swan was cruising around while a single fisherman was trying to catch dinner. The composition of this shot could have been better, but the sunset lasted for just a few minutes… Canon 5D Mk2, 300mm f/2.8 @Continue reading “Things you see…”

Jetty sunset…

I love the saturated colours and converging parallels in this image. Darkening in post has helped accentuate the colours, while cropping has improved the composition. Tripod, Canon 5DMk2, 24mm f/3.5 TS-E, 1/40th @ f/20 (underexposed two stops).
