  • Louvre pano…

This is actually three images, stitched together in PhotoShop CS4. I simply stood on some steps with the Louvre’s glass pyramid entry in front of me and captured three images, handheld using my Olympus EP-1 and 17mm lens. Although the images were captured using auto focus and auto exposure, that’s because I’m a lazy, and…

  • Vibrant flowers…

I’ve lay on the ground with a long focal length and shot this group of flowers a from low angle. The sun is to the front and right, punching through the petals. Exposure is as metered, although mid-tone levels were adjusted in post.Olympus EP-1, 40-150 @ 150mm (35mm effective 300mm), 1/250s @ f/10. ISO 100.…

  • Rule of thirds… sort of.

Dividing this image into three bands – the foreground reflections, the boys in the water and the boats on the horizon, make this a distintive summer feel. Strong saturated colours give it an intense feel. Underexposed 2/3-stop off the meter to hold highight detail in the white water and saturate the colours. Canon 5D Mk2,…

  • Curve, warmth and texture

In this shot I’ve tweaked the yellow to give the shot a very warm, almost sunset feel. The letterbox crop means many won’t identify it immediately with the Sydney Opera House, just wonderful curves, textures and tones. Shot with an Olympus EP-1, AV, 17mm f/2.8 @f/4.5, ISO 200, underexposed 2/3-stop from internal meter.

  • A optimist’s view of the future

I listened, yesterday, to a podcast which had a scientist saying we needed to reduce our carbon emissions to 1% or current levels if the rest of the world was to have its standard of living rise to Western levels and at the same time halt global warming. A somewhat sobering idea. But I gave…

  • A better solution to 3G on the iPad

In Australia, the 3G iPad is $170 more expensive than the WiFi only version, and then you have to buy a data plan – which then only works on the iPad. It’s a rip-off, basically, although the carriers have come out with a number of reasonably-priced data plans. Why I can Bluetooth tether my laptop…

  • Too much Paris?

My last day in Paris for this trip was typical of the way I travel – try to jam too much into too little time, run late and finish up exhausted. I had to return the bike to Yamaha, which is a 40 minute ride if you know where you’re going, and I didn’t. So…
