The spotlight on Missy Higgins performing at TEDx Sydney was so bright I had to underexpose 3 stops to record the highlight detail I wanted, which has caused the shadows to disappear, but that’s fine. Fallen…

The sharpness of the leaf in the bottom left corner of the frame shows you can get shallow depth of field with a fairly basic, inexpensive lens. It helps to be close to the subject, and shoot wide open. Hardware: Olympus E-P1, 17mm f/2.8 Exposure: ISO400, 1/100s @ f/2.8 Post: Cropped.

Crabby…

This small crab was hiding in a cave above the ocean waterline, well protected from predators. Surprisingly, the combination of his dark colouring and the white rocks meant the correct exposure was just what the camera’s meter indicated. Eiffel Tower at night

The Eiffel Tower at night is a spectacular sight, but it’s difficult to photograph without a tripod. I managed to get this image by loding my camera against a pole and gently releasing the shutter.
