This shot was captured by putting my camera onto of my left hand and lowering it until my hand got wet! I then made the exposure with my right hand. A dangerous practice if you’re paranoid about damaging your camera, but one I feel is worth the risk. I’m doing this on my iPad andContinue reading “Beach scene”

Streaky…
I love digital photography. My son had bought himself a toy light sabre at the local show, and in the late evening he’s showing it off for the camera. My first frames, shot with flash, show a tiny amount of streaking of the coloured lights. I lengthened the exposure time to 1 second, but thisContinue reading “Streaky…”
Beached…
The Pasha Bulker coal boat beached itself at Nobby’s Beach, Newcastle, in 2006. This is my favourite image from the accident. EOS 1DMk2N, 24-105 f/4 @ 70mm, ISO 400, 1/1000 @ f/6.3, -.67 stop.
Family…
Getting a dozen or so people in a shot – which needed to include me – was never going to be easy, especially as it needed to be shot at a time when the sun would be high in the Perth sky, and the group included ages from 2 to 75. I put the cameraContinue reading “Family…”
Tower…
Shooting almost straight up gave this fascinating composition for the Bell Tower in Perth. Underexposed 1.5 stops based on the camera meter. Olympus EP-1, ISO 200, 1/1500@ f/6.7, 14-42 @ 14mm
On high at night…
A careful squeeze of the shutter release while braced up against the wall of a London Eye pod with image stabilisation switched on has captured this wonderful shot of London from high up. Olympus EP-1, 17mm f/2.8 @ f/3.5, 1/8s, ISO 1600.
Arc de Triomph…
I was looking for drama with this image, so I chose a low angle and as long a shutter speed as I was comfortable with hand held. The drab, overcast day meant low contrast, but tweaking in Aperture has rendered the image reasonably dramatic, with a 1960s’ Kodachrome feel. Olympus EP-1, 14-42 @ 14mm, 1/15thContinue reading “Arc de Triomph…”
